Split - This, the cultural and economic centre of Central Dalmatia with a population of 300, 000, is built arround the 1700-year-old palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. It is here thet ceturies-old Antiquity confronts the rapid rhythm of the 21st century. It is not known why the Roman emperor first chose this pacific cove for the palace of his retirement, but there is no doubting the fact that his choice was the best possible one.
